Obedience in a Seasoned Journey

Sometimes it is easy to forget the lessons that can be learned by reading the Old Testament. Recently I have rediscovered the treasure trove to be found in the Book of Deuteronomy while making my way through my Chronological Bible.

OBEDIENCE has been the key theme the last few days. What is it about the word “obedience” that throws us off? Perhaps abuse in the past where obedience = subjugation?

Sister, OUR FATHER does not want obedience to Him to be something we fear or loathe. Obedience to HIM is sweet. It is enriching to our lives and it is a blessing.

Deuteronomy 6:2 tells us, “If you obey all His decrees and commands, you will enjoy a long life.

Deuteronomy 11: 8 says, “Therefore, be careful to obey every command I am giving you today, so you may have strength to go in and take over the land you are about to enter.”

Whatever that “land” is whether it be losing weight or overcoming an addiction or surviving an abusive relationship…God promises us that our obedience to Him will give us victory.

Listen to the words of Deuteronomy 11: 22, ” Be careful to obey all the commands I am giving you. Show love to the Lord your God by walking in his ways and holding tightly to Him.”

If that does not give you a visual of how God wants a relationship with YOU…not to overpower and control you…but a true and deep relationship with you – I don’t know what does. He wants us to obey Him to show him our love to Him. He craves our love and to spend time with us and for us to hold on to Him tightly for survival.

Deuteronomy 10: 12 – 13 tells us that God requires 5 things of us:

  1. Fear Him
  2. Please Him
  3. Love Him
  4. Serve Him
  5. Obey Him

This is our part of the big picture of our lives. If we do our part, He promises He will do His. So cease striving to control your life or your situation. Stop meddling in God’s promises to you.

Do your part and THEN…WATCH WHAT OUR GOD CAN DO! Let Go & Let God!

Faith Comes by Hearing in a Seasoned Journey

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” Romans 10:17 (NIV).

Many choices in life must be made on a daily basis. How we make those choices are up to us.

Everyday I hear women tell me – they had no choice. No choice in having an abortion. No choice in the incest that was afflicted upon them. And on and on. I get it. Many times when we are young and ignorant – we are not given the choice in matters of life that will profoundly affect us. However, many times as mature women we do have choices…

Choices as to how we will live out the second part of our lives. WE HAVE the choice to continue in that abusive relationship we have suffered in silence over the years for “the sake” of our families OR to get out. WE HAVE the choice to leave an overbearing and oppressive job that we have endured for years because we are expected to continue on because of the money it provides or the “benefits” it gives to us.

WE HAVE the choice. But how do we make those hard choices? Where do we turn to to wisely decide what is best for our lives and those we love?

Sisters, the answer is found in Romans 10:17. If we truly seek The Truth in God’s Word – He will will provide the answers. But where do I start? What part of the BIBLE do I begin with?

Let the Holy Spirit of God direct and guide you. Yes…really. I cannot tell you how many times I have literally prayed to God to lead me when I open my Bible – to the right passage. I cannot tell you how many times HE HAS. I will literally open my Bible to whatever page comes up and there it is…the perfect answer to my issue.

Have faith sister – in God’s Word and His ability to direct your path. Proverbs 3: 5-6 (NKJV) says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
